911 Enable Announces First E911 Softphone Discovery Solution for Avaya

E911 Softphone Locator (ESL) helps organizations with Avaya IP Softphones meet State E911 regulations.

Montreal, QC – February 1, 2010 – 911 Enable, the leading provider of E911 solutions for IP phone systems, today announced that its E911 Softphone Locator (ESL) now supports Avaya IP Softphones R5.0 and above. The ESL was originally developed to support Microsoft OCS clients, and has since been configured to work with Avaya.

The ESL is software installed on PCs and laptops running Avaya IP Softphones, and is used to help 911 Enable’s Emergency Gateway (EGW) automatically discover and track softphones within an enterprise’s communications network. The ESL pushes endpoint provisioning parameters (MAC/IP address, extension) to the EGW each time the endpoint is activated, or at pre-configured intervals. The EGW then uses these parameters to track their locations.

The ESL is the only solution available on the market today that enables the automatic tracking of on-site softphones without requiring intervention from the user or telephony administrator. This ensures that organizations can provide accurate, precise location information for softphone users when 911 is dialed, as required by E911 regulations. Completely transparent to the user, the ESL permits enterprises to reap the benefits of unified communications, while meeting E911 regulations and avoiding the fines and penalties associated with non-compliance.

“The introduction of the ESL for Avaya reflects 911 Enable’s commitment to help organizations protect their entire workforce and comply with E911 obligations,” said Lev Deich, Director of 911 Enable. “By implementing the ESL, organizations can be certain that their softphones will automatically provide accurate location information in times of crisis, helping to avoid the fines and penalties associated with legislative non-compliance and reducing their liability risk.”
